THE ALBUM is the debut Korean-language studio album by South Korean lady group Blackpink, launched on October 2, 2020, by way of YG Leisure and Interscope. The album was first confirmed by YG Leisure and comes on the heels of two pre-release singles, “How You Like That” launched in June and “Ice Cream” in August alongside Selena Gomez. When the latter launched, the pre-orders for THE ALBUM started, surpassing over 800 thousand sales worldwide inside per week and a million pre-sales hours away from the discharge.

On September 27, 2020, “Lovesick Girls” was confirmed to be the title observe off THE ALBUM, adopted by the discharge of a concept teaser. The following day, the official tracklist was announced.
