Simi gives a retort to the reviewer who suggested that she "turn up her volume."

Renowned singer Simi has become embroiled in controversy when a music reviewer criticized her, citing the need for a change in sound and her perceived repetitious musical approach.

Today, March 14, 2024, the accomplished artist addressed the matter and defended her creative decisions on her X account.

Simi’s most recent song, “All I Want,” sparked criticism from some fans who deemed it monotonous and demanded a change from her upbeat, well-known vocals and whimsical lyrics. Angry at the criticism, Simi vented on X, stating unequivocally that she had no intention of changing her voice to please haters.

Simi refuted criticisms that her songs are monotonous, pointing her that her last ten hits have all had distinct styles, emphasizing her versatility as an artist. She urged fans who do not appreciate her music to seek out other artists they prefer, stating, “If you don’t like my song, please go and listen to your faves.”

Simi’s impassioned response also addressed the issue of receiving feedback urging her to switch up her sound, which she described as uninspired and tired.” She emphasized her love for making music and expressed frustration at the expectation for her to conform to others’ preferences.

She wrote, “I did not force anybody oh Small one that I’ve said now, they’ll say “not everybody will like you” but me I know. Me sef I no like everybody. But I’m not gonna lie – uninspired, unbacked, tired feedback like “switch up your sound” irritate the fuck out of me. Meanwhile the last fucking song you’ve heard from me is Joromi.”

Drawing a comparison to Adele’s consistent style, Simi questioned why her own musical choices were subject to such scrutiny, asserting her right to artistic expression. She urged critics to respect her craft and acknowledged that not everyone would appreciate her work but emphasized that she creates music because of her passion for it.

She continued, Then you wait for your idolo on twitter to start a thread about how my verses are fire (on someone else’s song) before you respect me. I’m not dragging best with anybody. I make music because I fucking love it.”

Na the same ballad Adele dey sing all these days, her people no disturb am. E fi mi sile. If you don’t like what I’m selling, go and listen to the one you like. Unless you don’t have data. And if you don’t have, owo e lo wa ku si,” she added.

Simi’s candid remarks on X have sparked conversations among fans and industry observers, with many applauding her for standing her ground and defending her musical identity while others think she should not respond to her fans in the manner she did.
