Senator David Umahi, the Minister of Works, recently stressed that people from the Southeast will not take part in demonstrations against Nigeria’s exorbitant cost of living.
Speaking to reporters at his home in Uburu, in the Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, Umahi gave President Bola Tinubu credit for successfully resolving the main problems that the local populace faced. He singled up as one of Tinubu’s achievements the settlement of the ongoing conflicts between farmers and herders.
Umahi claimed that the majority of the Southeast’s present problems are self-inflicted and cited the actions of “unknown but known gunmen” as the main causes of concern. He clarified, saying, “If you look very closely, you will see that there are no longer constant conflicts between farmers and herders, especially in the Southeast.”
The former governor of Ebonyi State questioned the rationale behind joining protests when the President has already addressed their primary concerns. He stated, “So, why should we join the protest when the President has solved our major problem? The problem we now have in the Southeast is self-inflicted. That is the issue of unknown but known gunmen.”
Umahi further emphasized, “If you remove the issue of unknown gunmen, the Southeast will be completely safe and farmers can work. So, we can’t go and join anybody to protest.”
